Protective Hairstyle #3

June 22, 2011 in Hair care, Hair Styles, My journey, Protective, Reviews

So a fashion must do at the moment is….

……Turbans XD

Here are some DIY pics…

Scarves: H & M £6-£7 (definitely worth it!)

I’ve definitely jumped on the bandwagon here! This is a fabulous way to keep your hair from breakage etc. by minimal manipulation of your hair especially if like me, you’re tired of weave/braids/twists etc. It’s my protective hairstyle as well as my can’t be bothered to do anything to my hair today hairstyle. Come uni and exam period, this is where it’s at!!

Here are some vlogs that show you how to achieve this and other turban looks:

What do you guys think about turbans right about now? What other shops do you suggest to get these scarves from?

Protective Hairstyle #2

So for protective hairstyle No2 we have

……Kinky twists!!

Hair – Kinky twists

I did this from December 10 to May 11 twice and I have to say guys, I absolutely LOVE this one. Definitely recommend it to everyone!! Why?

Because….

It’s

  • simple
  • easy to maintain – just oil your scalp once a week and you can use dry shampoo every 2 weeks to clean your scalp
  • lasts for a long time (mine I wore for 2 – 3months and I did it twice)
  • similar texture to my hair so didn’t look too rough with the regrowth

When I took it out my hair had grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooowwwwwwnnn!! See the difference before (November 10) and after (March and May 11):

I think you’ll agree there’s a significant difference here in just under 6 months!! If you’re looking for a good protective hairstyle, look no further!!

What do you think guys?  Have any of you tried this before? Rate, Comment and Subscribe :D

Protective Hairstyle #1

June 20, 2011 in Hair care, Hair Styles, My journey, Protective

The first protective hairstyle I went for was just before uni because my hair was verrrrryyy dry and I still was trying to get the hand of taking care of it.

I did a wig cap:

Hair – Premium Now 1x 8 inches and 1 x 23/27 set with fringe
Colour – 4

Ratings:

  • Look – 3
  • Maintenance – 5
  • Longevity – 3
  • Results – 0
  • AVERAGE –  2.75

The pros about this hair style is that it was simple. I didn’t need to much apart from style it  or run my fingers through it so my hair wasn’t being strained etc. (hence a high score for maintenance). HOWEVER I took this off after like three days and when I put it back on it wasn’t the same. It felt so insecure on my head so I took it off after only 2/3 weeks and I paid £60 (including the hair) for it. I was majorly upset and so I highly doubt I’ll ever do this again!

Have any of you tried wig caps? How did you find it?

Transition Hairstyle #3

I loved the lace wigs because they were sooooo simple and they looked good too. I didn’t glue mine on so I could take them off whenever :D The downside was that because they were synthetic, they tended to get matted and so I had to straighten on very low heat once in a while. The 2nd one lasted me for 2 months or so which was quite good. What I loved about these is that my hair underneath was cainrowed and stayed like that i.e. no pulling / straining etc. so the hair could just grow. Hence why the results has a top score. I did unfortunately experience some scarring where the lace had been but that went away with time :D

What are your thoughts on lace wigs as a transition hairstyle??

Transition Hairstyle #1

So here’s my first ever transition hairstyle from Dec 09 – Jan 10…

(Don’t watch the Primani bag in the background lol!)

Hair – Batik deep wave

Colour – 4

I LOVED this hairstyle honestly! However, after the first few days, the bounce of the curls disappeared. I initially thought I could keep this for 2 months. HA! I only kept it in for 1 month :( It became very matted very quickly. I tried using mouse etc. to resurrect it but alas epic FAIL. However, when I took it out, my own hair was fine. I didn’t experience any breakage (not more so than expected when transitioning).

Have any of you tried this or a similar hairstyle? What were your views / opinions? leave a comment below ;)

Transition Hairstyle #2

June 17, 2011 in Hair Styles, My journey, Reviews, Transitioning

So here’s the second transition hairstyle I did from Jan 10 – March 10…

Hair – Premium Now

Colour – 2 on the top, 1b on the bottom

Ratings (out of 5):

  • Look – 4
  • Maintenance – 2
  • Longevity – 2
  • Results – 1
  • AVERAGE – 2.25

Okay so when I did this hair, it was uber exciting because I’d never had a fringe before or a weave for that matter! I was reassure that because it was natural hair (premium), it could last 2 months. LIES! After the third week, I was ready to take this thing off! It looked great for just about 3 weeks (hence a rating of 4). After that it started shedding and becoming matted etc. I found I had to keep straightening it as well. That’s why I’ve given a low rating for maintenance and longevity. The results when I took out this hair (bearing in mind I was VERY careful), is that my hair began to break even more so than before. I wondered why, until I realised that because of all the combing and pulling etc. when the hair became matted, it strained my actual hair. I honestly should have taken a picture of the back track when I took it out – I could count the hairs on that thing!

I didn’t have a very good experience with weave and as a result, i probably won’t be getting another one done in the near future!

What are your thoughts on transitioning with weaves? Post your comments below :D
